Role overview

The Senior SEO Strategist is a senior, client owning role within Re:signal’s delivery function.

They act as the strategic owner for a portfolio of clients, taking full accountability for the Organic Search strategy, prioritisation, client narrative and commercial outcomes. Alongside this ownership, Senior SEO strategists remain hand on in delivery, focusing their time on complex, high impact work that requires senior expertise.

They lead a delivery team, partnering closely with Project Management to ensure work is planned, prioritised and delivered predictably within capacity. While remaining directly involved in key strategic and technical deliverables.

While this role goes beyond day to day execution, Senior SEO strategists are expected to set direction, make priority decisions, manage risk and personally deliver the most challenging and valuable deliverables. Acting as a trusted senior advisor to clients and a representative of Re:signal at a senior client and industry level.

Key responsibilities

Client strategy & ownership

  • Act as a strategic owner for 3-5 client, with full accountability for SEO performance, prioritisation and outcomes
  • Own the creation of annual SEO strategies and quarterly strategy refreshes
  • Translate strategy into clear, prioritised roadmaps aligned to client goals and delivery capacity
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews and senior client strategy sessions
  • Manage client expectations, trade-offs and risk proactively
  • Clearly articulate the commercial value of Organic Search within client organisations

Delivery leadership

  • Lead and develop a delivery pod of 2-5 SEO specialists
  • Delegate effectively, ensuring work is owned at the right level
  • Partner closely with Project Management to ensure delivery is planned, sequenced and executed within capacity
  • Make prioritisation decision when delivery constraints arise
  • Ensure delivery aligned with Re:signal’s Delivery Handbook and Strategy Framework
  • Escalate delivery, resource or performance risks early

Delivery contribution

Senior SEO Strategists are expected to be a client billable role. With delivery time focused on:

  • Complex and high-impact Organic Search delivery
  • Strategic deliverables aligned to client objectives
  • Senior level analysis, diagnosis and problem solving
  • Client facing strategic sessions and meeting

Senior SEO strategists are not expected to spend the majority of their billable time on repetitive or low complexity execution, except when required to:

  • Unblock delivery
  • Deliver specialist work
  • Support team development

Strategic and analytical excellence

  • Diagnose complex SEO issues and design clear, commercially led solutions
  • Use data to inform strategy, prioritisation and client narrative
  • Create compelling stories from data for senior and non-technical audiences
  • Assess competitive landscapes and identify growth opportunities across Organic Search as a whole
  • Stay ahead of AI driven search strategy changes, articulating the impact to clients and your team

People development and leadership

  • Manage and upskill SEO Strategists & SEO analysts
  • Provide constructive feedback on deliverables with client KPIs in mind
  • Support performance reviews and capability development
  • Contribute to a culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement

Commercial and agency support

  • Support client renewals, growth and upsell opportunities alongside the Account Director and SEO Team Lead
  • Contribute to thought leadership through blogs, publications, events and speaking opportunities
  • Act as a senior representative of Re:signal in the Search community
  • Share learnings and add to our existing best practices across the delivery function

Essential skills & experience

Leadership and ownership

  • Proven experience acting as a client lead (or search strategy owner if in-house)
  • Experience in managing and developing small delivery teams
  • Strong prioritisation and decision making skills
  • Experience working with Organic Search delivery processes

Client and communication skills

  • Confident leading senior client meetings and strategic conversations
  • Able to present clear business cases (to clients) for Organic Search initiatives
  • Excellent stakeholder management and expectation setting skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adapt communication formats based on client and team requirements

Time and personal management

  • Strong personal organisation and priorisation
  • Experience managing delivery against budgets
  • Comfortable to contributing to light process improvements

Organic Search expertise

Broad Organic Search experience is required, preferably with a specialism in either technical SEO or content strategy:

  • Technical SEO:
    • Site migrations (platform and domain migrations)

    • Crawling and indexing
    • Technical audits & prioritisation of implementation
    • Internal linking strategy
    • Site speed audits
    • Canonicalisation & redirect audits
    • Sitemaps & hreflang management

    • Site structure management
  • Content strategy:
    • Intent analysis & content to search intent mapping
    • Content strategy creation for both commercial and informational intents
    • Content gap analysis
    • Competitive content analysis
    • International content strategy
  • Data analysis & reporting
    • SERP analysis
    • Data accuracy auditing
    • Monthly reporting against KPIs
    • Traffic drop analysis
