The client situation

Re:signal partnered with global luggage storage network Radical Storage to create an international Digital PR asset targeting core markets in the UK, US, and Europe. By examining the psychological phenomenon of ‘Paris Syndrome’—a condition brought on by severe holiday disappointment—the campaign analysed over 800,000 online reviews across 100 major cities to rank the world’s most underwhelming and overrated tourist destinations.

The challenge

Radical Storage operates across 500+ cities globally and required high-authority travel and news backlinks from diverse international outlets to support localized organic search performance.

Our approach

We tapped into the cultural fascination surrounding tourist disappointment, developing an evergreen, data-backed index comparing positive versus negative visitor experiences across top global travel hubs.

  1. The Angle & Hook: We used ‘Paris Syndrome’ as a provocative anchor, allowing media desks across the globe to cover both the “most disappointing” and “most inspiring” cities in their respective regions.
  2. Evergreen Campaign Iteration: Originally launched in August 2021 (covering 20 cities and 100,000 reviews), we re-pitched and expanded the campaign in 2022 across 100 cities and 800,000+ reviews. This strategy maximized production efficiency while generating a fresh wave of international coverage.
  3. Methodology & Data Science: We built a custom sentiment and keyword analysis engine to evaluate positive and negative review ratios across 100 top-visited cities. To ensure absolute accuracy, we built algorithms to resolve complex context ambiguities—such as distinguishing “highly recommended” from negative variants like “highly recommend going elsewhere”—and shared our methodology transparently with journalists to establish reporter trust.
  4. Multilingual Link Reclamation: We established a Creative Commons 4.0 attribution framework and deployed translated outreach communications across French, German, Portuguese, Polish, and Spanish media, converting 22 brand mentions into high-authority links.

Our goals

Build high-DR, international backlinks in core European, American, and Asian travel markets while elevating brand awareness for Radical Storage.

The Results

Open methodology combined with a culturally compelling topic sparked widespread syndication, driving coverage across news desks in 37 countries.

The asset generated 236 linking root domains and 362 total backlinks. Global coverage highlights included Daily Mail, The Independent, Express, Timeout, DerStandard, Stern.de, Euronews, Onet, Vancouver Sun, CNN Indonesia, and Novinky.cz.

The study drove a global surge in search interest for ‘Paris Syndrome’, positioning Radical Storage as the primary authority at the centre of the trend. Furthermore, the official Hungarian Travel Office integrated the study’s findings into their official national tourism materials to showcase Budapest’s top satisfaction scores.
