The client situation
Re:signal partnered with luggage storage provider Radical Storage to capture global, train-focused authority backlinks ahead of a peak summer travel season. By capitalising on rising consumer interest in European rail travel, the team launched a “Night Train Tester” dream job contest, attracting 12,000+ applicants and driving over 170 media placements worldwide.
The challenge
Radical Storage required high-authority editorial links specifically focused on rail travel—a relatively tight brief—to support their internal SEO content strategy and build brand awareness near major European rail stations.
Our approach
We analysed trend forecasts (including Pinterest Predicts) identifying train travel as a major consumer movement, pairing these insights with proactive newsjacking around newly launched European night train routes in summer 2023.
- The Angle & Hook: We used ‘Paris Syndrome’ as a provocative anchor, allowing media desks across the globe to cover both the “most disappointing” and “most inspiring” cities in their respective regions.
- Evergreen Campaign Iteration: Originally launched in August 2021 (covering 20 cities and 100,000 reviews), we re-pitched and expanded the campaign in 2022 across 100 cities and 800,000+ reviews. This strategy maximized production efficiency while generating a fresh wave of international coverage.
- Methodology & Data Science: We built a custom sentiment and keyword analysis engine to evaluate positive and negative review ratios across 100 top-visited cities. To ensure absolute accuracy, we built algorithms to resolve complex context ambiguities—such as distinguishing “highly recommended” from negative variants like “highly recommend going elsewhere”—and shared our methodology transparently with journalists to establish reporter trust.
- Multilingual Link Reclamation: We established a Creative Commons 4.0 attribution framework and deployed translated outreach communications across French, German, Portuguese, Polish, and Spanish media, converting 22 brand mentions into high-authority links.
Our goals
Build high-DR, international backlinks in core European, American, and Asian travel markets while elevating brand awareness for Radical Storage.

The Results
Media desks showed an immediate appetite for unique sustainable travel stories, leading to rapid syndication across international news and travel desks.
The campaign generated 140+ unique linking root domains and 30+ extra brand mentions across 30+ countries. Standout features included Le Figaro (France’s oldest national newspaper), Le Parisien, DerStandard, TimeOut, The Sun, Miami Herald, Newsbreak, and Onet.pl.
The page attracted over 11,800 visits (5,800+ organic search clicks and 6,000+ referral clicks), drove 3,000+ branded searches, and established long-term assets including a 2024 French travel blogger partnership and an exclusive newspaper interview series with the winner.
